GBT Foundation Grants

The Foundation focuses on the following key areas of need:

  • Increasing education and awareness for communities impacted by SCD to build knowledge of the devastating physical, social, mental and societal effects of this genetic blood disorder.
  • Empowering people with SCD, caregivers and others in the SCD community to help improve the lives and care of the community.
  • Improving access to healthcare to ensure those living with SCD receive the high-quality health services they need and deserve.
  • Enhancing health equity through innovative and sustainable solutions that help vulnerable communities have the chance to reach their full health potential without social obstacles.

Follow these steps to submit a funding request:

  1. Confirm your organization’s eligibility
    Verify whether your organization is eligible to submit a funding request.

  2. Sign in or create an account
    An account is required for our online funding system. Once your account is created, you will be able submit a funding application. Be sure to save your login information for future applications.

  3. Complete online request
    Complete your funding request via our funding request system. Requests must be submitted at least 60 days prior to the desired start date of the program/activity/initiative for which you seek support.

  4. Review and submit your application
    Review your request thoroughly for accuracy and completeness before submitting it for funding consideration. A confirmation email will be sent upon receipt of a submitted request to the primary and secondary contacts listed in the request.

What is the deadline for submitting a request?

What types of funding are available?

  • The GBT Foundation is focused on the following key areas of need:

How are requests submitted?

  • Requests must be submitted online via this portal. First time applicants will be required to create an account along with a username and password.

What are the funding restrictions?

The following are outside the purview of this funding opportunity:

  • Activities hosted at lavish facilities such as a spa or resort
  • Alcohol
  • Capital development that includes building construction, employee benefits, or fundraising (does not preclude seeking funds from other sponsors)
  • Funding market research or analysis to build a business plan
  • Medical and scientific research (e.g., Investigator Sponsored Trials)
  • Entertainment
  • Fee for Service Arrangements (including Honoraria)
  • Influencing legislation/lobbying
  • Travel unrelated to program
  • Tuition fees or Scholarships (HCPs)
  • Voter registration drive
  • Prescriber salaries/compensation are outside the purview of this program.

How long do funding decisions take?

  • Funding decisions may take anywhere from 60 to 120 days from receipt of a completed request.

What are the evaluation criteria?

Responses to questions or requirements identified in the application will form the basis of evaluation. The final decision and award(s) granted by The GBT Foundation will be subject to the following key decision criteria about each application:

  • SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, & timely) goals & objectives
  • Strength of proposed project and objectives
  • Highest potential impact to SCD community
  • Organizational capabilities

What is the payment process?

  • If a funding request is approved, a signed letter of agreement outlining the terms and conditions of funding is required prior to the release of funds. Payment(s) will be issued per the terms specified in the fully executed agreement.

Are there other required steps if awarded?

All proposals which are awarded a grant will be required to sign a grant award letter agreeing to the terms upon which such grant will be provided. GBT Foundation does not have any obligations to a grant requestor until the parties have signed a grant award letter.

Are there any reporting requirements for grantees?

Grantees are required to submit a progress report during the funding period documenting milestone(s) achieved and funds used to date as well as a final report documenting project outcomes and use of funds (as identified in the grant award letter).

If my request was not accepted can I submit requests in the future?

  • If a funding request is not accepted, your organization may apply for future funding. All requests that meet The GBT Foundation funding eligibility requirements will be reviewed.

How do I check the status of my request?

  • To check the status of a request, login to your account and select My Submissions.

Can I start an application and come back later to finish it?

  • If you are unable to complete a request for any reason, you have the ability to save your work and login at a later time to complete it.
